Ebbsfleet United won their third game in a row that leaves themselves only two points outside the Play-offs but they made hard work against a young Woking side.
The game played in rain and wind saw Ebbsfleet buoyed after their win at Halifax come out the quickest and in the 5th minute the ball crossed into the area was only half cleared and came out to Andy Drury whose first time shot from 20 yards came back off the post.
Three minutes later Cory Whitely, making his home debut, received the ball 25 yards out and he turned the defender and saw his shot go just past the post.
In the 19th minute Danny Kedwell on the right passed inside to Whitely in the area and from 15 yards his shot came back off the post.
Ebbsfleet were in control, but Woking with their nice passing, but lack of the killer instinct close to goal, suddenly came close when it was their turn to hit the woodwork, when a free kick to the far post saw Reece Grego-Cox control it and his shot from 5 yards came back off the post.
Eight minutes later they nearly took the lead when a cross from the right into the area was side footed goalwards by Grego-Cox only for Ashmore to make a great save by pushing away from goal.
In the 41st minute Sam Magri in the area was fouled and a penalty given, up stepped Kedwell who blasted it low to the left leaving Nathan Baxter no chance.
Three minutes later Kedwell found himself in the area on his own and his shot across goal was pushed for a corner by Baxter and from the resulting corner to the near post Kedwell’s flicked header went just over the bar.
The second half saw Fleet again start the fastest and in the 48th minute, Luke Coulson 20 yards out try his luck but Baxter saved it.
A minute later and Fleet were two up when a ball into the area found Kedwell who swivelled and saw his shot from 15 yards take a slight deflection which beat Baxter.
Woking were shocked by this and brought on two subs of which one would make an impact.
In the 62nd minute a cross from the left into the area saw Charlie Carter leap and head past Ashmore from 10 yards.
The rest of the game saw both sides battle away without causing many problems. Ebbsfleet seem to be learning well as they managed the game well and came away with the three points.
