Striker Tom Eaves has promised Gillingham’s fans that he and the squad will be giving 100% to get a win against Bradford City on Saturday.
The 3-1 loss at Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday night sees The Gills hovering just above the League One relegation zone and the Bantams have dropped to the bottom of the pile.
Defeat at Home Park has left Steve Lovell and his charges under pressure with the Gillingham manager admitting on Thursday that he’d sent a number of his squad home.
With the pressure beginning to grow and fans getting increasingly frustrated with the situation at the club, Eaves has spoken of his desire to put things right:
“Disappointment is what I am feeling personally. Every individual has a responsibility to perform their own role.”
“We need a result on Saturday. I’m desperate to win this game.”
“It’s important that we stick together. We need each other right now, we need unity.”
“We are all 100% behind the manager. We all want to do well, we all want to win games and we owe it to the supporters to go and get a result.”
The loss at Plymouth came as a bitter blow to a Gillingham side that won at leaders Portsmouth only a few weeks ago and Eaves feels the side have the chance to put in a great performance this weekend:
“We have an opportunity now to change our home form. I am not someone who likes to make excuses, there are no excuses. Tuesday wasn’t good enough, we need to step up.”
“We need to match Bradford man for man. We need to show people what we can do; there is a lot of talent in this squad and we showed that at Portsmouth.”
“We need to want it more than they do. We apologise for the performance at Plymouth, I would like to thank the supporters for sticking by us and we will give 100% on Saturday.”
