Eastleigh v Bromley preview

After the injury time disappointment of Tuesday night’s local derby defeat, Bromley now travel down to the South Coast to face Eastleigh on Saturday for another tough National League fixture.

The Ravens make the trip to The Silverlake Stadium having lost 3-2 to second place Sutton Utd in midweek, despite leading 2-1 with five minutes to go thanks to goals from Michael Cheek and Courtney Duffus.

The defeat saw Neil Smith’s side slip to eleventh in the table with 34 points from 24 matches played, but still just four points off the top seven play off places in the tightly congested middle third of the league.

Eastleigh also lost on Tuesday night, going down 1-0 away at Chesterfield, conceding a late goal as well, the loss left The Spitfires in seventh place with 38 points from 24 league games, only suffering defeat twice in 2021.

Manager Ben Strevens took his team into the play offs last year and will be looking to do the same again this term, they have won three and drawn one of their previous five, but have failed to score on their last two matches.

When the sides met at Silverlake last season in September 2019 the game ended 1-1 with Luke Couslon scoring for Bromley before Cavanagh Miley equalised late on for the home side.

The reverse fixture at Hayes Lane in December 2019 ended in a 3-2 win for The Spitfires and this season in October 2020 they won again 2-1, with two goals from Ben House prior to a late strike from James Alabi for The Ravens.

Having first met in their Conference South days Eastleigh have an impressive record over Bromley, not losing to them in 14 matches dating back to September 2013 and they will go into this one as firm favourites again, but The Ravens will be looking to rediscover their early season away form, which saw them go unbeaten from October 2020 to February 2021.

Defender Chris Bush will still be suspended for Bromley, while Taylor Maloney has been out for some time. Smith will have to assess the rest of the squad to see who is available following the gruelling recent fixtures schedule of two games a week.

The game will be played behind closed doors as per Covid 19 restrictions, but supporters can live stream the game from the Eastleigh FC website for £8.50.
