Easter Sunday proves fruitful for Jamun

Easter Sunday proved to be far more fruitful for Rochester based Jamun racing with solid podium finishes in both races.Dan Cammish leads the way at Brands

With race two of three featured on ITV4’s coverage of the BTCC opening weekend, it was a chance for the drivers to show the potential that they have.

Jamun’s drivers didn’t disappoint with Scott Malvern leading the challenge and taking the fight to Dan Cammish running him close. Rookie teammate Nico Maranzana put his car on the podium taking third place in his first race weekend.

Luke Williams was unfortunate that mechanical issues forced him to retire from the race, but the fourth car in the race for Jamun was brought home in fifth place by Ben Anderson. Making it a successful second race of the weekend for the team.

Speaking after the race, a disappointed Williams who had leapfrogged teammate Malvern at the start, said: “We started with no battery power and all the way through the race we had problems with it surging, which meant I had an even bigger lack of straight line speed.”

To achieve a podium place in your first race in Formula Ford is no mean achievement and that is exactly what promising Argentinian Maranzana did.

A delighted Maranzana said after the race “We made a change to the car after yesterday and it made a big difference. It allowed me to concentrate on my work.”

It was Dan Cammish who took the victory in race two and he led from start to finish in race three as well underlining that he is the man to beat this season.

Once again it was a solid race for the locally based Jamun team with Luke Williams finally achieving the podium place that his race weekend warranted.

Nico Maranzana was showing his consistency as he came in just outside the podium places in fourth, and stand in driver Ben Anderson finished in a solid sixth place.

Race three was just as eventful as race one for the returning Scott Malvern with a spin on the opening lap of the race leaving him in last place. He showed his class and racing pedigree to fight back and finish in eighth place overall.

Speaking after race three Malvern wasn’t really sure what had caused him to spin on the opening lap and that his race was finished from that moment.

He said: “I’m not entirely sure what happened. I think one of my team-mates may have been slightly ambitious on the brakes, so that was the end of my race really. Once that happens, you just hope for a safety car or you turn it into a test session and, seeing as we’ve been struggling this week, we thought we’d test and see what we could do. When things like that happen there’s not a lot you can do really.”

Despite the spin on lap one Scott did manage to bag himself the fastest lap of the race, edging out teammate Maranzana for that honour.

The Championship now moves on to Donington Park on the weekend of the 20/21st April where the Jamun boys will be doing their best to cut Dan Cammish’s 27 point lead down.
