Three defeats in a row has been a disappointing start to the new season for Welling United.
Whilst, being amongst the bookmakers favourites for promotion may have been a little hopeful, they would not have expected to have made quite such a slow start.
Saturday’s home defeat to Weston-super-Mare was their second in five days at Park View Road and they are now back on the road looking to break their duck for the season.
They visit new promoted East Thurrock United who secured their first win of the season on Saturday away to Hampton and Richmond Borough.
New Wings’ signing Dan Walker may be able to offer his manager Mark Goldberg some insight on their opponents as he was in the Hemel Hempstead Town team who drew 1-1 with them last Tuesday.
Two players will be opposing their clubs from last season. Reece Harris has returned to the Rocks after a season and a half at Park View Road whilst Ricky Hayles has moved in the opposite direction. Another East Thurrock player, George Craddock, has also had a spell with the Wings.
There may well be adjustments to the Welling line up as Wings’ manager Mark Goldberg is not happy with the way his players have performed. “It comes to the stage where I’ve got the responsibility to get points on the board and to drive the club forward on and off the pitch.
“I will support my players as best as I can but I think a lot of them need to hold their hands up and analyse their own game, their own performance. If their not prepared to put it in, I’m going to have to make some changes.”
Injuries to Oliver Sprague and Warren Whitely in the pre game warm up against Weston means they are unlikely to feature giving Goldberg fewer options. “Losing two wingers might help me make a decision on the way that I go.”
