Sittingbourne head off to Sussex on Saturday with the best current away record in Bostik League South.
They’ve won the last four league games on their travels – Molesey 3-2, Shoreham 4-0, Herne Bay 1-0 and Horsham 5-1.
This time they’re playing East Grinstead and the target is to start working their way back up towards a top two position they had a few weeks back.
Since then their home form has wavered, but away from Sittingbourne – in the league at least – they have been on the mark, and among the goals.
In that time, though, they’ve also gone out of the two remaining cup competitions they were still involved in – both after away midweek treks to north London.
They went down 1-0 at Haringey Borough in an FA Trophy replay and were unlucky to lose 3-2 at Wingate & Finchley on Tuesday night in the Velocity Trophy (the League Cup competition).
They twice led in that game, through a John Coker header and a Miles Cornwell penalty, and were 2-1 up with only minutes left when Wingate scored twice to nick the tie.
Sittingbourne also lost a couple of home league games early in November to very late goals, and even Corinthian Casuals’ equaliser last Saturday was in the last 10 minutes of the game.
But that was also an important point for Sittingbourne, an honourable 2-2 draw against decent opponents with a midfield shorn of all the usual players.
Both Bola Dawodu and Tyrone Guthrie are back from suspension now, and top scorer Kane Rowland should also return to the team at East Grinstead after being unavailable for the midweek Wingate trip.
East Grinstead have won only one of their last seven games, and are struggling in the lower reaches of the table.
But they did pull off a 2-2 draw with Herne Bay last Saturday and have beaten both Carshalton and Phoenix this season so obviously have something about them.
Sittingbourne lost 2-0 at East Grinstead last season but won the return at Woodstock with a late headed goal by Tom Carlse.
