Three points safely secured in Kent on Saturday, Kevin Watson takes his squad to West Sussex on Tuesday as The Millers face their first ever trip to The GAC Stadium.
Located at the meeting point of four counties – East Sussex, Surrey, Kent and West Sussex – the ancient market town of East Grinstead is recognised as the capital of the High Weald Area of Outstanding National Beauty.
Just a 15 minute walk from the town centre sits East Court, home of the football Club and just a stones throw from the Meridian Hall.
Formed towards the end of the 19th century, it wasn’t until 2014 that The Wasps were elected to join the Isthmian League after a history of mixed success in local football.
The Club were bottom, and adrift in the league with only ten points when the 2019/20 season was declared null and void in March 2020, but were unbeaten after six games when last season was curtailed.
The appointment of Tony Reid as first team manager had many expecting a strong challenge from The Wasps this season – Reid having won the Combined Counties League with former Club Westfield in 2017/18, before leading them to the Isthmian League South Central Play-Offs the following season – however a home defeat against Southern Combination outfit Alfold in the FA Cup got this season off to a poor start early in August.
A Frannie Collin penalty for Hythe Town on Saturday has since consigned them to a third defeat in four league games – their only success coming against “pointless” Whitstable Town.
For The Millers, three consecutive league wins sees them in second place in the fledgling league table, while they’re hoping that a weekend of ice treatment enables leading scorer Marcel Barrington to recover from a leg injury picked up on Saturday.
