Dynamos sign new netminder

The Invicta Dynamos will have a new netminder for next season with  Chris Douglas having signed from the Bracknell Hornets.Chris Douglas

33 year old Chris Douglas joins the Dynamos for his third term in the NIHL South having already iced for the Oxford City Stars and Bristol Pitbulls in 2011/12 as well as the Hornets in 2012/13.

Before that the experienced netminder had clocked up over a decade in the league above including four seasons with the Swindon Wildcats, two campaigns with the Bracknell Bees, two and a half years with the Romford Raiders, a term with the Chelmsford Chieftains and a part year with the Haringey Greyhounds.

During his numerous years of senior hockey, which spreads over more than 16 seasons in the game, the shot stopper has also enjoyed on ice success by helping claim an EPL championship as well as two playoff titles. Now though the well travelled goalie will make Gillingham his home as he arrives in Kent to battle for the Dynamos’ number one spot in 2013/14.

Speaking on his sixth signing of the summer, Head Coach Kevin Parrish revealed he was pleased to have such valuable experience in the side, especially in a position which has previously posed problems for the club.

Parrish said, “We haven’t always had the best of luck when it comes to netminders, whether it be injuries, players departing or various other factors, so it’s great for us to have a deal in place for someone of Chris’ ability and background to come into the side for 2013/14.”

“Any team that wants to win anything in hockey needs a safe pair of hands between the posts and I believe we’ve got exactly that following this signing”.

The Head Coach then spoke briefly on what Douglas would bring to the team when he added, “Chris is not only an excellent shot stopper but he is also a character that has enjoyed success at a higher level and knows what it takes to win silverware.”

“He has been there, done it and seen it all before and it’s players like this that keep their head when games are going against you and help turn them in your favour. I look forward to him playing between the posts in Gillingham come September and am sure he will prove a valuable asset to the Dynamos”.

Netminder Chris Douglas is the fifth new face to the club ahead of the upcoming campaign and joins Alan Lack, Juraj Huska, Shuan Wild and Ryan Giles on the roster alongside returnee Arran Strawson.
