The Invicta Dynamos will have revenge on their minds when they take on the Wightlink Raiders in the play-offs this weekend.
Losing 7-4 to the Raiders in their penultimate league fixture of the season still holds vivid memories for most of the Dynamos players and fans with the side having ended the campaign third in the table behind this weekend’s opponents.
Having comfortably booked their place in the play-off semi-finals stage with a 16-5 aggregate win over the Cardiff NIHL Devils, Kevin Parrish’s side will go into the two games full of confidence.
First up they head to the Isle of Wight on Saturday night before returning to Gillingham on Sunday evening for the second of what could be two epic clashes against Jeremy Cornish’s side.
Not a lot has separated the two teams throughout the season with the Dynamos having won five and lost three of the eight encounters, but crucially they have already won 7-1 on the island at the start of the season.
This weekend will be much different though with both sides knowing there is so much at stake with the Dynamos desperate not to let their season end over the coming days.
For Head Coach, Kevin Parrish, the weekend represents a great opportunity for his side to show just how good they are:
“We threw the last semi-final we were involved in away (against the Streatham Redskins in the Southern Cup).”
“That can’t happen again. We need to concentrate solely on the away game on Saturday.”
“The away game could dictate on who makes the final. It’s a massive test for us, but I believe that this team can make it through.”
The Dynamos are only expecting to be without the services of defencemen Ryan Giles and Shaun Yardley through injury with Parrish set to select from an almost fully fit roster.
Games like these define a side and for the Invicta Dynamos, the second leg at Gillingham on Sunday night could turn out to be a game that lives long in the memory. Face off is at 5:15pm.
