The Invicta Dynamos season ended in Chelmsford on Sunday night as they were narrowly defeated in the play-off semi-finals.
Trailing the Essex opposition 3-2 after the first leg in Gillingham on Saturday night, the Dynamos knew they would be up against it as they faced the league winners Chelmsford Chieftains.
In the end, they ran the play-off favourites close and at one stage looked to be causing an upset, but it wasn’t to be for Kevin Parrish’s side and they now must look towards next season.
They went into the game with the belief they could pull off a victory after the tight game on Saturday night, with it looking unlikely after the opening three minutes of the first period as they trailed 2-0 and 5-3 on aggregate.
However, they were to stage a fightback right throughout the game with Canadian imports Justin Noble and Peter Vaisanen scoring before the buzzer to make it all square on the night at the end of the first period.
An entertaining second period saw seven goals with the Dynamos leading 4-3 and 5-4 at one stage, bringing the tie level on aggregate, with Aaron Strawson, Callum Fowler and Vaisanen on target, but the Chieftains were to go into the final period leading 6-5 on the night and 9-7 on aggregate.
A tense final period saw Chelmsford extend their lead to 7-5 after 47 minutes and despite the Dynamos throwing everything they had at the home side, they couldn’t quite muster enough to take it into extra time.
Jack Tarczycki was to pull one back just twenty seconds before the final buzzer, epitomising the spirit within the Dynamos camp, but in the end it wasn’t to be and now the side will rest, reshape and prepare for the new season come September.
