After a long four months off the ice, the Invicta Dynamos are back in action this weekend.
With the turmoil surrounding the league structure, the Kent side find themselves now in the second tier of ice hockey going into their opening two games of the season.
Kevin Parrish’s side start their weekend away to league favourites Basingtoke Bison before returning to Gillingham on Sunday evening for their clash against Milton Keynes Thunder.
With the likes of Basingstoke, Peterborough Phantoms and Swindon Wildcats now in the same league as the Dynamos, the Kent club will see anything better than finishing bottom of the league as a success.
Parrish has done well over the summer to assemble a roster that’s capable of competing, but will be mindful of not overspending in a league where clubs will undoubtedly have bigger budgets.
The return of imports Ondrej Zosiak and Adam Rehak add stability, whilst the likes of Callum Fowler, Damien King, Arran Strawson and Tommy Ralph give the side much needed experience.
Bobby Chamberlain has been handed the captain’s armband for the season ahead, whilst Mason Webster is joined at the club by younger brother Brandon.
With the likes of Adam Morgan, George Hoang, Seb Downing and Louis Colvin all brought in by Parrish over the summer, there is a real emphasis on youth and the future.
Having Scott Bailey sign up for another season is a huge boost to Parrish and the Dynamos, whilst the loss of Ashley Jackson to Saturday’s opponents along with Elliott Dewey will come as a blow.
Parrish has three defined lines for the season ahead, but will look to add numbers in the coming weeks and months.
Fans will have to clearly adjust their expectations after finishing last season as play-off winners.
The club will undoubtedly lose more games than last year, but with the introduction of overtime and penalty shots, it’s sure to be an entertaining season.
We caught up with Kevin Parrish and Bobby Chamberlain over the past week along with Invicta Dynamos TV. Watch the interviews here:
