Dynamos re-sign defenceman Lennon

Invicta Dynamos head coach Kevin Parrish has today recruited his fifth defenceman ahead of the 2012/13 campaign.

Long term servant of the club, Anthony Lennon joins the team for the blue liner’s ninth consecutive year in Gillingham.

Anthony Lennon has been a regular in Kent since first appearing for the Dynamos in 2004 having joined on a rolling contract with an opportunity to impress Head Coach Kevin Parrish.

His no nonsense approach to the game, hard hitting style and dedication to the team quickly won over the club’s supporters and the blue liner has been offered a place on the roster every year since. Having signed up for his eighth term with the Dynamos at the beginning of 2011/12, Lennon went on to suffer a difficult campaign after seeing his playing time halted as he picked up a fractured shoulder in just his sixth outing of the competition.

However, after a prolonged spell on the sidelines, the skater would eventually finish the season having iced 22 times, scored 1 and chipped in with 6 assists for a total of 7 points. His determination to get back on the ice, coupled with his presence at all training sessions and games during his period of injury, then saw him awarded the ‘Clubman of the Year’ Award come the end of season presentation evening in April.

Now, as he prepares for his ninth year donning the crest of the Dynamos, the blue liner will be hoping to add to his all time statistics of 32 goals, 121 assists and so 153 points in 291 outings – a tally that currently places him sixteenth in the club’s list of all time highest point scorers.

Speaking on the re-signing of defenceman Anthony Lennon, Dynamos Head Coach Kevin Parrish revealed that the long time servant of the club was always in his plans for the 2012/13 season and that he saw the skater getting back to his best after an injury ridden campaign.

Parrish said, “Anthony had a rough year last time around with injuries but that’s something every player will face at some point in their career and it’s how they come back from it that matters. In his case his determination, desire and commitment to still be a part of the team even when he was forced to sit on the sidelines was a demonstration of how keen he is to be a member of this side and there’s never any doubt that he’ll give anything less than 100% when his skates hit the ice. Hopefully he will have better luck with injuries in 2012/13 and, if he does, I’ve no doubt he will remain a very important and influential player for us”.

Finally the Dynamos chief then briefly explained why Lennon continues to make his roster some nine years after his debut when he added, “Anthony lives and breathes this club. He is one of the longest serving members of the team and he knows what it is to be a Dynamo. On the ice he’s an old school ‘stay at home’ defenceman that hits hard, has a bullet from the blue line and will look after his teammates. He’s a big signing for us and I’m sure this season will see him have on of his best years in a Dynamos’ shirt”.

Anthony Lennon is the fourteenth player to make the club’s roster ahead of the first puck drop as Head Coach Kevin Parrish begins to finalise his plans before the team’s 2012/13 opener against the Milton Keynes Thunder on home ice on Sunday 2nd September.
