The Invicta Dynamos have confirmed the arrival of 26 year old forward Steve Osman from the Wightlink Raiders.
The prolific skater has agreed terms to spend the 2014/15 campaign at the Silver Blades Gillingham.
Steve Osman first sampled the NIHL via the league’s second tier having joined the newly created Bristol Pitbulls during their debut campaign of 2009/10 and he played a major role in helping the team from the south west secure immediate promotion – grabbing 18 goals and 30 assists in 19 outings to push his side to the table’s summit.
Despite then facing much tougher opposition in the NIHL South Division 1 the following year, Osman simply went from strength to strength and hit the net 28 times whilst playing a role in 25 more for 53 points in 39 games.
Having swiftly become something of a talisman for his home town side, the forward remained with the Pitbulls again in 2011/12 where his influence helped drive Bristol to a club best finish of sixth in the league – his return of 71 points in 36 fixtures marking his best season yet in senior hockey.
However, as rink issues threatened the very existence of Bristol’s team in 2012/13, Osman joined nearby Cardiff where he wasted little time settling in with 27 goals and 36 assists for the NIHL Devils.
Last season then saw him venture as far as the Isle of Wight to don the jersey of the Wightlink Raiders for a campaign and he lived up to his reputation once again – 28 goals and 18 assists securing a return of 46 points for the league’s runners-up.
Now the centre-man will be hoping to do even better as he switches from the away changing room at the Silver Blades Gillingham to that of the Dynamos in 2014/15 where he will continue to wear his traditional number 83 jersey.
Speaking after unveiling the capture of Steve Osman, Head Coach Kevin Parrish revealed that he had admired the forward’s ability for some time and was glad to finally have his man.
Parrish said, “I’ve had my eye on Steve since he first appeared in the NIHL with Bristol and so it’s great to have the opportunity to now bring him to Gillingham.”
“He has grown as a player in this league and put up some big numbers over the past three seasons and it’s great for me to be able to bring in a forward of his calibre with a proven track record at our level.”
“When he has visited with Bristol, Cardiff and Wightlink in previous years he has always been a player to look out for so it will be good to finally have him at our disposal in 2014/15”.
The Head Coach then briefly summarised what fans can expect to see from Osman when he said, “Steve is a hard working two-way centre-man who is strong in the faceoff circle and notches more than his fair share of goals and assists over the course of a season.”
“He’s a good team player and a perfect fit for what we’re looking to build at the Dynamos for the coming campaign”.
Steve Osman is the tenth player to make the team’s roster with two more signings to be unveiled later on in the week – the first of the pair coming on Wednesday.
The new season’s fixtures and season ticket details are also to be revealed with KSN to announce the new campaign for Kevin Parrish’s side at 9am on Thursday.
