The Invicta Dynamos have added another new offensive threat to the roster after completing the capture of 19 year old Sheffield born hotshot Elliot Knell.
Knell is the Dynamos latest summer signing and joins the side from the EPL’s Telford Tigers.
Elliot Knell has risen through the ranks at his home town club in Yorkshire and was providing glimpses of his potential as early as 2009/10 when he finished the campaign as the highest point scorer in the Under 16s North Division 1.
Not content with his 35 goals and 24 assists for the table topping Sheffield Rapiers, Knell also nabbed a further 29 points for the under 18s outfit in the same campaign – his tally of 22 strikes the greatest return of any player in the side despite the higher age group.
Still only 16, Knell then enjoyed an exceptional 2010/11 campaign that saw him top score for the Under 18s once again – with 28 goals and 20 assists in 13 games – whilst also appearing 18 times for the Sheffield Spartans in the NIHL North Division 1 and 8 times for the Steeldogs in the EPL. His form meant an international call-up followed and the young forward would go on to ice 4 times for Great Britain’s juniors at the World Championships.
In 2011/12, Elliot Knell completed his final year with the under 18s in fine style by once again establishing himself as the teams best goal getter with 25 strikes and 21 assists coming in 15 outings. A further 8 goals and 10 assists in 24 NIHL North Division 1 appearances saw him continue his switch to senior hockey whilst he also lined up for the EPL’s Sheffield Steeldogs another 6 times.
His continuing promise would see him become a fully fledged Spartan by the start of last season but, after just 7 fixtures, he was picked up by the Telford Tigers in the league above where he dressed 37 times and managed 7 points. Now, any further points will come in Kent as the 19 year old hotshot joins former Sheffield teammate Shaun Wild in moving south to represent the Dynamos in 2013/14.
Speaking on the capture of Elliot Knell, Head Coach Kevin Parrish highlighted the skater’s excellent junior record and indicated that he thought the forward was a player with a bright future.
Parrish said, “Elliot joins us from the north where he was always a top performer in higher age groups and frequently led the way in goals and assists for his team. Despite his young age, he has already iced in both tiers of the NIHL, represented both Sheffield and Telford in the EPL and played on the international stage with the under 18s. He has a huge amount of promise, is an exciting young talent who is not easily fazed and I am very pleased that he has opted to join us in Kent”.
New signing Elliot Knell will wear shirt number 18 when he ices for the Dynamos in 2013/14 – just one number less than former Sheffield teammate Shaun Wild who also moved south to join the club this summer.
