The Invicta Dynamos completed their pre-season campaign by giving EPL side Peterborough Phantoms a run for their money on Sunday night.
Kevin Parrish’s new look side went into the game having lost 7-4 to the same opponents away from home on Saturday night and once again without the services of the suspended import Juraj Huska.
Despite not having a full strength roster in which to choose from, the Dynamos raced into a two goal lead within the opening five minutes of the game with Callum Fowler and Elliott Knell firing past Phantoms netminder Thomas Murdy.
The lead wasn’t to last long though with the Phantoms level by the end of the first period thanks to Frantsek Zubek and James Ferrara with the Dynamos picking up penalties that cost them dearly.
Four unanswered goals in the second period from the Phantoms saw the visitors race into a four goal lead with Lewis Hook, Erik Piatak, James Ferrara and Luke Ferrara all getting themselves on the scoresheet.
Once again it was penalties that cost the Dynamos with the Phantoms making the most of the powerplays.
A much tighter final period saw the Dynamos really step up their game and on another night they’d have punished their opponents, but a real sucker punch came in the 55th minute when Zubek fired in his second of the night on a powerplay to make it 7-2.
The Dynamos will now spend the week preparing for their opening game of the new season with Chelmsford Chieftains coming to the Silver Blades Ice Bowl in Gillingham for the NIHL Southern Cup clash on Sunday night with face off at 5:15pm.
