Karl Robinson and his staff have been busy formulating plans for the January transfer window.
Two strikers are top of the manager’s priority list, though Leon Best could be offered an extended deal if he impresses in the next few weeks.
Josh Magennis has been the focal point of the attack, but has yet to score a goal with his feet this season.
The Addicks failed to sign Stevenage’s Matt Godden in the summer, and tried to bring Preston’s Eoin Doyle in on loan on deadline day.
Doyle did not fancy a move south, and opted for a temporary move to Oldham instead. Doyle scored on his debut for the Latics, ironically against Charlton at Boundary Park.
The Addicks made a late swoop for Rangers’ former Leicester front man, Joe Dodoo. Dodoo also scored on his debut in that 4-3 win at Oldham – his only goal for the club.
The move has not worked out, and Dodoo has not featured in a League game since Bury visited The Valley on 23 September.
He willl return to Ibrox in January.
Robinson has had encouraging news about influential duo, Tariqe Fosu and Ahmed Kashi.
Fosu has missed the last five league games with a groin problem, which have coincided with the team’s worst run of the season.
They have picked up just five points from those games, and also exited the FA Cup at Wimbledon.
Kashi has been absent with a foot injury since the game with Peterborough at the end of November, and was expected to be out for several weeks. But his return his imminent, as Robinson explained:
“We will know Tuesday and we can get them (Kashi and Fosu) back on the grass on Thursday and see how they respond.
“I think Kashi and Tariqe aren’t far away. One game max.
“Maybe not this weekend for Fosu. He’s had a scan on Friday and it looks like it is starting to clear up.
“He’ll have another scan this week as well. We don’t want it to reoccur this week if we push him and there is any weakness.
“It is wiser to leave it one more weekend because we don’t want him to break down.”
So Kashi could even be back in the fold for Saturday’s trip to Blackburn. Fosu’s return is much needed, he has been the team’s shining light this season.
