Having been beaten on Saturday, Welling United will look to bounce back immediately when they visit Dulwich Hamlet in a Vanarama National League South fixture on August Bank Holiday Monday.
After two consecutive wins, the Wings were brought back down to earth on Saturday with a disappointing defeat at home to Chelmsford City.
In the first half, Taylor Maloney hit the crossbar from a free kick, Stefan Payne had a header cleared off the line, and the officials missed a blatant handball when Chelmsford’s Dave Winfield punched out a corner in a style that any goal keeping coach would approve.
After the break, Welling went behind when Simeon Jackson was allowed far too much space and time to turn and unleash a great strike to put the visitors ahead. Within three minutes, Welling were awarded a penalty but after a discussion on who would take it, Payne stepped up, but Jacob Marsden went the right way to make the save.
More disappointing defending allowed Chelmsford to add a second with nine minutes remaining and although Maloney pulled one back with a wonder strike, it was too little too late.
Dulwich were also on the end of a hard to take defeat on Saturday when they went down to defeat at Eastbourne. Having gone behind just after the hour mark, Nana Owusu levelled seven minutes later only to concede a stoppage time decider. They have won one, drawn two and lost two so they will also be keen to bounce back.
