Following their heavy defeat on Saturday, Welling United visit Dulwich Hamlet in the London Senior Cup for a midweek game.
However, it’s unlikely that this match will be a dress rehearsal for the Vanarama National League South fixtures between the two teams over the Christmas period.
Peter Taylor’s Welling team found Ebbsfleet far too good for them on Saturday and crashed to their second six-nil defeat of the season. They were one-nil down in less than a minute, two behind in under ten minutes and it was five-nil by half time.
Although they only conceded one further goal towards the end of the second half, the damage had been done. After the game Taylor admitted that he had not been too bothered about the Dulwich match but was giving it consideration following his team’s performance. He suggested that Daniel Carr will probably play the full ninety minutes against the team for whom he made his name. Stefan Ilic, following a spell at Tooting and Mitcham, may well start too along with a fair number of first team players.
Hosts Dulwich Hamlet are having a far more successful and are placed handily in fourth place despite losing two-nil at Oxford City on Saturday. Their manager Gavin Rose may also be looking at using fringe players as the League and F.A Trophy come higher on the priorities list.
Next Saturday, Welling start their Trophy campaign with a very difficult trip to Hungerford Town whilst Dulwich could also have a tricky task away to Brentwood Town.
Despite that, Rose will know that tickets are selling well so may feel the need to put out a decent side.
