Kent Cricket have confirmed that following scans and advice from specialists, Keith Dudgeon’s knee injury sustained in training last week has cut short his time as a Kent cricketer this Summer.

The right-armer will now undergo rehabilitation work back in South Africa.
He took eight wickets on debut in Northampton, including best first-class figures of 7/36 in the second innings, as Kent won the first of their two victories so far in the Rothesay County Championship.
Speaking ahead of the news that Dudgeon was out for the rest of the season, the South African explained how the move came about and how he was hoping for a good summer:
“I have been in contact with them over the last couple of years, about potential opportunities. Last year I was supposed to come over and play a very short stint as cover for one of the bowlers. Obviously, there were some complications, and it didn’t work out.”
“They were quite impressed with what they saw in me. And they put me forward to Daniel Bell-Drummond, who I already have been chatting to since last year and is the team captain.”
“The South African cricket system is very strong. I pride myself on the level of cricket we play back home. But here it’s the difference in conditions, the challenges of being an overseas pro, bowling with the Duke ball, those are the kinds of things I really look to take out of my experience here.”
“To play for my country is still a dream, and I don’t think it’s fair to say it’s a goal because there are so many good players. Selection and whatnot are out of our control. The dream is to play for South Africa and earn my Test cap in any way or form. That would be fantastic for my career.”
With the news having broke that Dudgeon would be returning to South Africa, the bowler thanked everyone for their support:
“I’m absolutely gutted for my time at Kent to come to a close so quickly. It’s been an amazing but short few weeks.”
“I’ve loved everyone at the club, from the playing staff, coaching staff, all the way to the Members and supporters.”
“Also, a massive thank you to you, the Kent fans.”
“You’ve been absolutely incredible to me; from those that travelled to Northampton for my debut, to those who have sent me messages online.”
“I’d also like to extend a special thank you to Simon Cook, Adam Hollioake and Daniel Bell-Drummond for welcoming me to the group from day one, and giving me the opportunity to represent Kent Cricket.”
“I really hope to get strong and fit as soon as possible, and when that times comes, hopefully I get the opportunity to represent this great Club again in the future.”
“I’ll be cheering the boys on from afar this season!”
Everyone at Kent Sports News wishes Keith the very best in his recovery.
