Dover Athletic have confirmed the release of manager Martin Hayes after an underwhelming start to the Blue Square Bet South season.

The Whites are targeting a playoff spot this term, but are currently in 12th position in the standings after 11 games with 15 points in the bag.

Hayes has struggled to improve his side’s goal-scoring record after four goalless draws in their last seven fixtures.

The team’s inability to find the decisive strike has no doubt contributed to the decision to sack Hayes, as Dover have drawn six matches so far – more than any other side in the league.

The manager took over at Perry’s Crabble Stadium in 2010 and also made 18 league appearances for the club as a player in 1995.

A statement on the official website reads “The club would like to place on the record its thanks to Martin for his efforts while at the club and wish him the best of luck for the future.”

It is unclear as yet as to who will replace Hayes as manager at Dover with a home fixture against Carshalton in the FA Cup to come on Saturday afternoon.
