There’s a long distance Kent derby on Tuesday evening when Dover Athletic entertain Welling United in a Vanarama National League South fixture at the Perry’s Crabble Stadium.
Both teams are in the bottom three at present and will probably look at this match as a must win.
On Saturday, Dover lost one-nil at home to Hampton and Richmond to extend their win-less league run to thirteen games since defeating Slough Town away.
They have had some joy in the F.A. Cup with victories over Hastings United and Haringey Borough before Eastleigh ended their run in the fourth qualifying round.
It has been a similar story for Welling. They have gone nine league games without a win since they beat Tonbridge Angels away. They also had some success in the Cup winning at Dartford and then Gosport Borough after a replay.
Their run was ended at Boreham Wood. On Saturday they drew one-one at Weymouth with Kain Adom cancelling out the hosts’ goal scored on the stroke of half time.
Last season’s corresponding game was a dull Good Friday affair with almost no goalmouth action at either end, unsurprisingly finishing in a stalemate.
Their meeting earlier in the season also ended in a draw. Manny Parry put Welling ahead with thirteen minutes remaining but Chike Kandi equalised four minutes later.
