Dover got their first league win of 2020 with a comfortable victory over Aldershot Town.
Goals in either half from Kevin Lokko and Shadrach Ogie ensured Dover grabbed the three points and kept pace with the playoff-chasing pack.
Earlier in the day, Dover boss Andy Hessenthaler made two changes from the side that drew away to Notts County last weekend with Yusuf Mersin and Jai Reason coming in for Lee Worgan and Ricky Modeste.
With both teams trying to figure each other out, the first chance of the game went to Whites in the 13th minute when a defensive mistake allowed Inih Effiong to get in behind the defence, but his effort curled over the bar.
However a minute later, they did take the lead through Kevin Lokko who got on the end of a free kick by Reason to head home from close range.
Whites had a couple of chances to double their lead, throughout the first half. First Reason found Shadrach Ogie at the edge of the box from a corner, but his first time shot was saved well by former Dover goalkeeper Mitch Walker.
Then, after Effiong had won a free kick on the edge of the area, the ball was squared to Bobby-Joe Taylor, but his goal bound shot was blocked by the defender.
Whites were then given a lucky escape by referee Sam Barrott after it looked like Mersin had taken out Lewis Walker in the box, but the referee didn’t see anything in the challenge and waved for the game to play on.
Dover’s lead doubled less than 10 minutes into the second half thanks to a brilliant goal from Leyton Orient loanee Shadrach Ogie. He picked up the ball in his own half and ran down the left hand side, finding himself with space in the box to slot past Walker.
Mersin was then called into action for the first time in the game when he got down well to save from Connor Shields’ shot which was Aldershot’s first shot on target in the game.
Aldershot were then reduced to 10 men with 20 minutes to go after Kodi Lyons-Foster picked up his second yellow for bringing down Michael Woods at the edge of the box.
Lewis Walker almost halved the deficit when a cross found the attacker free in the box but he could only get his knee onto the ball and it was easily gathered by Mersin.
Ade Yussuf had a glorious chance to put the game out of sight as he was put through on goal but his effort was saved well by Walker.
As it was Dover did not need another goal and saw out the rest of the game with minimum fuss.
Dover are back in action on Tuesday night as they travel to FC Halifax Town in the Vanarama National League.
