Karl Robinson fielded a blend of youth and experience against Dover Athletic at the Crabble on Tuesday.
Robinson also turned the intensity up a notch too, five players – Phillips, Barnes, Sarr, Crofts and Ahearne-Grant – played the full 90 minutes.
Dover took the opportunity to liik at six trialists in the match.
Charlton won 2-0, thanks to goals from Jake Forster-Caskey and Reeco Hackett-Fairchild.
The first goal came after a slick move down the left. Aaron Barnes fed Karlan Ahearne-Grant, who chipped a delightful pass to Josh Magennis.
The big Ulsterman stood the ball up perfectly for Joah Forster-Caskey to head home at the far post.
Substitute, Reeco Hackett-Fairchild netted the second in the last minute.
Another substitute, Joe Aribo, robbed a defender on the by-line, and laid on a simple chance for Hackett-Fairchild to convert from close range.
The Addicks played some nice stuff at times, and Robinson will be pleased with some aspects of the performance.
Cameron Stewart -whose initial spell with the club ended on Monday – came on as a second-half substitute. He has earned himself more time to convince the manager he is worth a contract.

There were more rumours flying around on Tuesday. The story linking Cristian Ceballos with a move to St Truiden this week looks sound.
