Doubts over Peeters’ future
Doubts over Peeters’ future

Charlton’s poor run has led to speculation about Bob Peeters’ future. Stories in Israel are suggesting former Standard Liege boss, Guy Luzon, will be taking over at The Valley.

Things are clearly not right at the moment, Peeters and Johnnie Jackson were remonstrating with each other as the teams left the field when the floodlights failed on Saturday.

Jackson was not his usual chirpy self as he left the ground on Saturday and Andre Bikey had this to say after the game:

“We have got a lot of injuries and players with physical problems.

“Some players are tired. I’ve already played 27 games and it’s difficult, we’ve got 22 games left. So it’s not easy, a new face always makes the squad better.

“It is not about being fit. Everyone needs a rest, some players play with a physical problem, Igor is not 100 per cent. OK, he has played with that, Igor is only an example.

“New faces can help us, a different type of player.

“We don’t have a target man, someone who is 6f’ 5”, Cardiff, Blackburn and other teams have it, we don’t. We need someone who can hold the ball.

“There were some arguments in the dressing room, it has to happen. The manager has to understand no one is happy, we have to try and get a solution.

“We are in a bad run but there is still a long way to go. I’m not sure Ipswich and Bournemouth are already promoted. We have to keep fighting and try to be on top there,” said the imposing centre-back.

There are interesting days ahead at The Valley.

Nick Pope is set to join League Two outfit, Bury, until the end of the season. Pope has made eight starts for the Addicks in all competitions this season, plus he replaced the injured Stephen Henderson in the Wigan match in August.

Pope was set for a lengthy run in the team following Henderson’s injury, but some nervy performances have led to Neil Etheridge replacing him in recent fixtures.

With Henderson out for some while, and Dillon Phillips on loan at Bishop’s Stortford, young Dimi Mitov is left as the main cover for Etheridge.

Etheridge, as expected, penned a permanent deal until the summer on Monday.

It would be folly to leave the keeping section so thin on the ground and Upjest’s Marko Dmitrovic is likely to be confirmed as an arrival before the weekend.

Simon Church, who was set to go out on loan before dislocating his shoulder, looks set to join local rivals Millwall on loan. He may be joined at the Den by Addicks old boy, Luke Varney.

Charlton may also be looking for midfield reinforcements, particularly as both Callum Harriott and Yoni Buyens are suspended and will miss Saturday’s clash with Brighton.

Watford’s Irish international, Keith Andrews, and Chelsea youngster, Nathaniel Chalobah, are amongst the engine roomers thought to be on the Addicks’ radar.

Tony Watt has already signed a deal at The Valley and this will be announced shortly. Andy Delort is still a possible arrival too.
