Brett Lidsey continued his stunning early season momentum with two more sensational race drives during rounds three and four of the campaign at Donington Park National Circuit on Sunday, 28th April, to chalk-up a brace of superb runner-up finishes.
Going one step further from his, then career-best, top three results in the opening two races of 2019 at Brands Hatch three weeks ago, the 27-year-old from Northfleet in Kent shone even more brightly during the second event of the season at Donington.
After setting the third fastest time in qualifying, before being elevated onto the front row of the grid for each contest after the car of rival Max Coates was excluded, Lidsey went on to deliver two very strong race drives with clear, untroubled second place finishes to MRM team-mate Jack Young.
Climbing into second place in the championship, eight points ahead of Coates, the combined efforts of both Lidsey and Young also mean the MRM squad has opened a significant 25 point advantage in the Entrants’ Trophy.
“Obviously, I’m really pleased with how the weekend went for us and to leave Donington second in the championship is dream stuff to be honest”, said Lidsey, “I would have liked to have had more pace in race two, but we were on fairly old tyres so to settle for second was the best we could do, it was a bit of a boring race really.
“In race one I was aiming to leave it a while, follow Jack [Young] and then try and attack for the lead, but with the Safety Car appearing, and some oil down, that approach couldn’t work. Getting two consistent top two results, though, I’ll take that any day and with Jack’s results it’s perfect for MRM in the Entrants’ championship.”
