Dorking Wanderers v Welling United preview

On the back of four league and cup defeats, Welling United make a tricky trip to Dorking Wanderers.

Two losses in the National League South surrounded elimination from the London Senior Cup and F.A. Trophy for Peter Taylor’s Wings.

Last Saturday, Welling hosted Eastbourne Borough. They lost two-nil and only managed one meaningful effort on target. Tom Derry made his Wings debut up front but only had scraps on which to feed and will hope for some service this weekend.

Having looked like it was out of Dorking and Dartford for the league championship before last season was declared null and void, the Wanderers have had a mixed start this time around. They are in thirteenth place at present having won six and drawn three of their fourteen games.

Although they have only claimed one point in their last three league games, they were all on the road. At home, they have won five of their six games with only Hungerford Town leaving Meadowbank with all three points.

Last season, when Welling visited Dorking, the Wings were well beaten. It was the second game of Steve Lovell’s short tenure and Dorking put his team to the sword. Five different players were on the score-sheet as the hosts scored twice in the first half and three more times after the interval.

One player who was in the Wings team that day may be up against them on Saturday. Darren Oldaker played the last few games of last season Lovell’s team. He has recently signed for the Surrey club and will hope to start on Saturday.
