Ashford athlete Lisa Dobriskey booked her place in the semi-finals of the 1500 metres with a strong race at the Olympics on Monday.
The 28 year old came through the pack to win her heat in a respectable time of 4:13.32 to book her place in Wednesday’s next round.
Dobriskey, who has been plagued by poor form and injuries in the past few years was in ominous form as she battled through the field to seal a top six finish after a photo finish on the line confirmed her as the race winner.
Speaking straight after the race, Dobriskey was delighted to have made it through to the next round:
“I have been doubting my speed and my kick. To have a slow race, I was terrified in the first couple of laps, so I just thought it wasn’t going to go my way today, so I feel so much better to have dealt with that and now I can have a lot more confidence in my kick and my speed in the end of a race, so I’m really pleased.”
The 2009 World Championship silver medalist will be hoping to go one better this time around and was joined in Wednesday’s semi-finals by fellow Team GB athletes Hannah England and Laura Weightmann.
