Football fans have a chance to meet former Chelsea & England striker Kerry Dixon when he comes to Kent on Thursday evening.
The former Blues legend is coming to Rochester for a night at The Roffen Club with football fans set to enjoy a three course meal with the prolific striker whilst enjoying his company and raising funds for the Kent Air Ambulance.
Over nine seasons between 1983 and 1992, Kerry Dixon became one of the best loved players to ever appear for Chelsea.
The striker joined from Reading for £175,000 as the team was rebuilt following near relegation to the Third Division and scored 34 goals that year as the club claimed the Second Division title.
In his first season in the top flight Kerry scored 36 goals to win the Golden Boot and take his Chelsea tally to 70 in just 101 games, earning a call up to the England squad in the process.
A serious muscle injury in January 1986 slowed Kerry’s progress though and he was arguably never the same player again. He almost left Chelsea as the team was slowly broken up and relegation followed in 1988.
Ironically, this helped to rekindle some of his earlier form and Kerry totalled 25 league goals as the club won the Second Division title for the second time. Back in the First Division he scored 26 as the Blues finished fifth, the club’s highest position since 1970.
With 193 Chelsea goals to his name, Kerry is third on the all-time list – behind Frank Lampard and Bobby Tambling.
Dixon was also to be capped eight times by England, scoring four goals in the process.
Speaking exclusively to Kent Sports News ahead of the event, Dixon said he was looking forward to seeing as many people as possible come out and raise funds for charity:
“I’m very much looking forward to the night. I know there are lots of Chelsea supporters in the Medway towns and I look forward to meeting some of them on the evening.”
“I’m sure that it will be another very enjoyable evening.”
