Ryan Dixon is right in the title fight for the No Limits Racing 2024 title, having taken the championship lead in Anglesey last weekend.
He did it with two wins and a second place from the three races across the weekend. He brings us up-to-date with his race weekend.
Going it alone, I set off on the long old journey to Anglesey Thursday lunchtime. Arriving at about 9pm, I unloaded, set up in the garage, set up my living quarters in the back of the van and got ready for the weekend.
Friday morning, I got out and got back into the swing of riding my bike after riding the trickbits bikes at Aberdare. A couple of small set up changes and a gearing change throughout the test sessions and I felt I was there or there about and good to go.
Saturday morning saw qualifying, I tried to find a space on track to get a decent lap in but just couldn’t string a full lap together. I was running wide and trying to force it to fit, eventually ending up fifth on the grid for race one although just 0.4 from pole with less than 0.7 between the top nine riders, it was looking like another hard, close weekend of racing!
Race 1 – the only change was a new rear tyre but the bike felt completely different! I got a good start and was into second by turn two. I sat behind the leader and tried to figure where our strongest areas of the track were and where I could try to make a pass.
The first attempt I ran wide and he came straight back through but attempt two was more successful and with two laps to go, I pushed on and just tried to get to the finish in front, which I did successfully, taking the win
Race 2 – a small gearing change to give me a little more down the back straight was the only change and I was starting fourth. Another good start saw me straight into second and I decided this time to go for the lead as soon as possible. I made the move, tried to stay smooth and consistent and led the race from start to finish, taking a second win for the weekend
Race 3 – starting third I was hoping to do the same thing but a poor start meant I was third and lost a little time on the lead pair. I tried to push but couldn’t catch them. They didn’t seem to be getting away too much but we were fairly equal on pace and at a bit of a stalemate.
A mistake from the rider in second gave me a chance to have a go towards the end of the race, I have it a go and with just over a lap to go moved into second and then rode defensively to try and get to the flag there. A second to end the weekend was good enough, a clean sweep would have been nice but you can’t win them all!
That was enough to take the overall for the weekend, the first time I’ve managed to pull it off with no limits and also leaving the meeting with a 21 point championship lead with two rounds to go. A track that has been good for me generally up next, Oulton Park next weekend before a bit of a break before the big finale at Donington Park in October. Thank you as always to those who make it possible, I’m doing my best to fight for the title until the end!
