Disappointment for Airwaves Racing

It was a disappointing afternoon for Wrotham’s Airwave Racing team as drivers Mat Jackson and Aron Smith struggled at Donington Park.Airwaves Racing

In fact Smith ended the session in the gravel trap as he lost the rear end going into the final corner, and the red flag came out to end the session. He will now start tomorrow’s BTCC races from 16th on the grid.

Teammate Mat Jackson was also struggling and was a second off the pole position time set by Gordon Sheddon, he will start from 13th place on the grid.

Addison-Lee Motorbase driver Liam Griffin in his S2000 will start rounds four, five and six from 23rd on the grid.

Frank Wrathall is in a somewhat surprising second place on the grid after his car was quick around Donington in qualifying, even though pole was snatched from him by Sheddon he will be more than happy with that. Pirtek Racing’s Andrew Jordan will start the race from third place.

Veterans Matt Neal and Jason Plato are handily placed as they will start from fourth and fifth respectively, Tony Gilham’s top qualifier is Tom Onslow-Cole who will mount his assault on the podium from just outside the top ten after qualifying in 11th place.

Giving his reaction after qualifying pole sitter Sheddon, said: “With the tools at our disposal and with not carrying any ballast, then I think pole position had to be the aim. Wrathall was the surprise of the session so I plan to try and get my head down and keep out in front tomorrow. It’s my first pole position in the NGTC car and it’s been a long time coming, so I’m delighted.”
