Chris Powell has utilised a variety of systems this season, sometimes to match up with the opposition’s shape, sometimes to deal with injury problems.
4-4-2, 3-5-2, a diamond midfield, 4-5-1 and 4-4-1-1 have all been used at some stage, but what formation is the gaffer likely to use against Queens Park Rangers?
There are some players that Powell wants in the team at all times and will adjust the shape of his side to accommodate them if necessary. Michael Morrison, Johnnie Jackson and Yann Kermorgant are all huge players for Powell.
There have been instances when Jackson and Kermorgant have been rushed back and suffered recurrences to injuries. Both are now back in action, and with a fixture free weekend coming up, they will be raring to go at Loftus Road. Richard Wood is another who will be available for the trip to West London.
Wood gives natural balance on the left to the central defensive unit and Powell may be tempted to play 3-5-2 against the Hoops. If so, Morrison, Dervite and Wood would fill the three central berths.
Lawrie Wilson and Rhoys Wiggins will push up into the wide midfield areas with Jackson joining Jordan Cousins and Dale Stephens in the centre of the park.
Kermorgant would partner Simon Church up front. Cameron Stewart and Callum Harriott would have to make way and the duo would join Bradley Pritchard on the bench.
Powell clearly has a number of decisions to make as he ponders his line-up for Loftus Road, but he will be relish having a bigger squad to choose from and the added options this gives him.
