After a season of highs and lows, Kyle Dempsey scooped the Player of the Year award for Gillingham Football Club.
The club captain was to pick up the main award of the evening as Gillingham held an impromptu event online following their final league game of the season, winning 1-0 at home to Plymouth Argyle on Sunday afternoon.
Dempsey’s form has undoubtedly been a real stand out performance for a Gillingham side that has seen the club just miss out on a play-off place.
Having claimed the award, Dempsey was quick to thank fans by tweeting:
“said many of times this year the support that I’ve received since I’ve been here as been the best I’ve received!! And for the fans to vote for this one I can’t repay you enough!! I’ve went week in week out every week to show yous how much in means. And I thank every one of yous.”
Meanwhile, Vadaine Oliver was to claim the Players’ Player of the Year award after bagging 20 goals for the season and he was delighted to have received the recognition from his colleagues tweeting:
“To me this meant everything to get the acknowledgment from your teammates who have been with you every step of the way day in day out means so much I thank you all again.”
Defender Jack Tucker claimed the Young Player of the Year award after a season that’s seen the talented centre back claim a regular place in the side and he was grateful to have been honoured.
He tweeted: “Happy to get this award. Been an up and down season for me- plenty of things to learn from to take into next year. Thank you for your continued support throughout the season Gills fans! We go again next year.”
Finally, the Goal of the Season award went to Connor Ogilvie for his superb strike against Charlton Athletic at The Valley and he was pleased to have been recognised:
“I think it will be the best goal I ever score. He had no chance to be fair! Thanks for the award, I appreciate it.”
The evening saw Chairman, Paul Scally, thank the team of volunteers, club staff, players and management for their efforts over the last 12 months.
He also thanked main sponsor MEMS and all the other sponsors for their support over the season and said he hopes supporters are back for the 2021/22 season. He thanked the fans and says they have been “a credit to the club.”
Finally, manager Steve Evans was already looking to the future after an historic past twelve months:
“I thank everybody, as the Chairman has done. League tables don’t lie, good or bad. We miss our supporters, they make the world of difference. We miss you and look forward to getting you back, please come back. We have an exciting pre-season.”
