It really was a Sunday to remember for Bromley Rugby Club as they won the Senior Vase Final at Twickenham.
Bromley were twenty points to ten winners over West Leeds scoring seventeen unanswered points, with Dave Banfield and Patrick Moore scoring the crucial tries that brought the Vase to the county.
Prop Banfield was over the moon in scoring Bromley’s first try as he crashed home 13 minutes into the second half.
“Wasn’t expecting that at all,” Banfield told KSN after the game. “It’s a fantastic feeling that I can’t put into words. We knew we had to come out of the blocks after half time and to score like I did was brilliant.”
Centre Moore sealed victory by scoring just before the hour and admitted that “it was an unreal feeling and I couldn’t believe it at the time, but looking at the scoreboard it came home just how important it was.”
For player coach and fly half Tom Beaumont, it was a great way to bow out as first team coach having a 100% kicking record by converting both tries and kicking two penalties.
“Not bad was it,” he joked afterwards, “I wanted to bow out with something special to thank everyone at the club – I think that that will do don’t you?”
Tom said with a smile befitting of a Dad to be for the second time in a couple of months time.
