Decision Day looms for Kent clubs
Decision Day looms for Kent clubs

The penultimate Saturday of the regular Non League season is upon us and still so many of our clubs have things to play for.

3E3B8640 - Devante McKain holds off Harry Grant

In the Conference, Welling United’s win over Wrexham on Tuesday, whilst being the final nail in Dartford’s relegation coffin, also lifted the Wings out of the bottom four in the division (albeit on goal difference) above this weekend’s opponents Alfreton.

So with the two sides level on points, it really is winner takes all, although the Wings have a far superior goal difference…

Bromley go into the weekend’s home game with Weston Super Mare knowing (with Boreham Wood not playing) that victory will promote Mark Goldberg’s side to the Conference – mathematically they need two more points to make absolutely certain.

Down in the Ryman League and a win for Maidstone United at Dulwich Hamlet will finally crown Jay Saunders’ side as Premier Division Champions.

At the other end of the table, if VCD Athletic can get something at Margate (whose home Play Off Semi Final is already guaranteed) will go a long way to saving Tony Russell’s side from the drop.

In the North, victory for both Chatham Town (at Play Off chasing Brentwood on Saturday) and Cray Wanderers (at home to Tilbury on Sunday) will guarantee their respective places in the division.

In Chatham’s case, victory is all the more important as on the final day of the season, they host Champions elect Needham Market who may have to win to guarantee the title as their own slug fest with Harlow looks set to go to the last minutes of the season.

Down South, the battle for second place will go to the wire as both Faversham Town and Folkestone Invicta fight out home field advantage in the Play Offs.

Locked on 94 points each and a goal difference of plus 56, Faversham (who go to relegation threatened Hastings) have scored three more goals. Folkestone themselves travel to Walton Casuals.

At the bottom, Ramsgate go to relegated Horsham desperate for three points to help their own relegation battle, after Tuesday’s 0-0 draw with Guernsey at Southwood and that now means that Simon Halsey’s side are one of three separated by just a solitary point fighting against the third and final relegation place.

Finally, Hollands and Blair will officially be crowned Kent Invicta League Champions if the avoid defeat to Gravesham Borough at Star Meadow.

As usual, KSN will have reporters at the games that matter as we build up to DECISION DAY next Saturday, and then into the Play Offs and beyond…
