Catching up with people in Kent football, Nick Davis, manager at VCD Athletic gives us his thoughts on the 2020/21 season.
Here’s what he had to say:
“Really pleased with the the start of the season and bearing in mind we had only a couple of months to build a completely new squad. The start was always going to be be difficult and with two cup draws against sides who were in the playoff positions the year before didn’t help.”
“However to then go on to win our first four league games was quite an achievement and found ourselves top of the league. We then had two narrow defeats on the road to many peoples title favourites Hastings and unbeaten Faversham. Both by the odd goal and games we were bitterly disappointed we never got anything from.”
“We then finished with two home games where we took 4 points from Whitstable and a draw against another unbeaten side in East Grinstead which we dominated for the majority of the game and felt two points had been dropped.”
“Those two points would of put us top of the league going into this lockdown period but still puts us in a healthy position of second having averaged two points a game with a plus 11 goal difference.”
“The aspirations for the first season for my point of view was can we make the top half as a starter, knowing it would take time to build a side capable of competing higher up.”
“I think now given the start we have had it would be nice for us to keep involved with the sides nearer the top as long into the season as possible and see where that takes us.”
