Kent seamer Mark Davies admits he is flattered by talk linking him with an England call up after an impressive start to the season.

However, the 31 year old who joined Kent from Durham in the winter, insists he just wants to keep bowling well for his new side and hasn’t given much thought to a call up by the national selectors.

Davies could have done little more than he did against Warwickshire in the CB40 at Canterbury on Friday night. A devastating spell of eight overs unbroken saw the seamer return figures of three wickets for just ten runs, including three maidens.

His timing couldn’t have been more perfect either with the Sky cameras in attendance and with England selector Ashley Giles watching on, but Davies told KSN it was just another day at the office, even though his three wickets at the start of the innings saw the visitors slump to 9 for 4:

“We said in the dressing room that we need to get off to a good start in One Day cricket, so it was good to get them under the pump early doors.”

“I’m chuffed the ball is coming out so well as I’ve had a tough winter preparing for the season. It’s just nice to be playing cricket now and long may that continue.”

“Warwickshire are a serious team and we knew coming into the game that you have to respect them. They’ve got good players right throughout the team, but the ball nipped around early on, so they were on the back foot straight away.”

“It was hard work for the batsmen and Colesy bowled well again. The lads have all done well all year so far and we’re keen for that to continue.”

It’s been the story of Davies’ season so far as his accurate bowling had lead to wickets, with Friday night a prime example of what can happen when you bowl in the right areas.

The buzz word in and around the Kent dressing room this season has been about building “pressure” and that seems to have paid off with Davies leading by example for the rest of the side.

His return of 3 for 10 in eight overs just goes to show how hard he is to get away for batsmen and Davies told KSN that it was one of his more satisfying spells of bowling:

“This was my best in CB40, although my best in One Day cricket was 4 for 14 and funnily enough that was against Warwickshire as well many moons ago back in about 2002.”

“I was happy with the way it went and I’m chuffed.”

Spells like that are surely going to catch the eye of the England selectors in time with spaces still up for grabs in the one day set up, but Davies told KSN he is keen to just keep on playing for Kent and anything else will take care of itself:

“I don’t really listen to the speculation. I’ve been there before and if I play cricket for England I’d be delighted, it’s everbody’s dream I guess, but at the minute I just want to play cricket and enjoy it.”

“That’s what I’m doing at Kent and long may that continue.”

Kent now enjoy the majority of the weekend off before heading to Southend on Tuesday to play the Unicorns again.

They are the only side to have inflicted a defeat on the Kent Spitfires this season and Davies says the side are determined to put that loss behind them:

“We were looking to put that loss behind us against Warwickshire and we’ve done that, but now it’s onto the game against Unicorns.”

“They’re no mugs and we will have to be on our game, but hopefully we can put on another good performance there.”

The game against The Unicorns start at 1:45pm on Tuesday with KSN bringing you live updates throughout the game on twitter and facebook.
