Cup fever will hit North West Kent when Swindon Town visit Dartford in the first round of the F.A. Cup.
Tony Burman’s team are having an excellent season so far and their cup run has not distracted them in the league as they lead the Vanarama National League South by two points with a very strong goal difference.
Whilst Swindon start their campaign at this point, Dartford have already negotiated three rounds to get this far. They started with a 3-1 victory over Barking courtesy of an Elliot Bradbrook hat-trick, two of which were penalties.
In the third qualifying round they visited Needham Market and any worries of a giant killing were swept away with an emphatic 6-1 win. This time it was Alfie Pavey who notched a hat-trick, all three before half time. Tom Murphy scored shortly after the break then Andy Pugh added a brace.
Their fourth qualifying round match was on the road again, this time at Burgess Hill Town. Pavey put them ahead after just eight minutes but that turned out to be the only goal of the game.
Last Saturday, they warmed up with a 2-1 victory over St Albans City at Princes Park. Bradbrook put the hosts ahead but Charlie Walker levelled before the break. Former Dart Tom Bender scored an own goal, knocking in Lyle Della-Verde’s deflected cross to win it for Dartford.
Sunday’s game will be a big challenge for the Darts as Swindon are currently fifth in Football League Division two and have won six out of their eight league away games.
Their last league game saw them win three nil at Port Vale with second half goals from Matthew Taylor, Paul Mullin and Kellan Gordon.
Unsurprisingly, tickets are selling very quickly ready for an enthralling encounter.
