Dartford 5-1 Welling United

Five-star Dartford put Welling United to the sword to fire themselves to the peak of the National League South table.

They came out quickly and never let their opponents settle to enjoy a relatively comfortable evening.

Although Welling had the first chance when Manny Parry was unable to convert a Yaser Kasim corner, Dartford were soon bombarding the Welling goal with dead ball deliveries causing lots of problems for the Wings’ defence.

In the eleventh minute, the hosts went ahead. Luke Coulson’s delivery found it’s way to Pierre Fonkeu and although Kai McKenzie-Lyle did well to block his initial effort, it came back out to him, and he made no mistake with his follow up effort.

Coulson had a long range shot gathered comfortably by McKenzie-Lyle before Dartford scored again just shy of the half hour mark. Jack Smith had a shot that the Welling goalkeeper could only parry out and Davide Rodari followed up to bundle it home.

Another Coulson corner resulted in Dartford adding a third. This time he delivered to the near post and Maxwell Statham met it with a clever flick to find the bottom corner.

Warren Feeney responded by making a double change at the break which included the introduction of new signing Jay Simpson and Welling were given a lifeline eight minutes into the second half.

Ade Azeez chased down a back-pass, Joe Young attempted to clear it, but it struck the Welling striker, and it looped back into the net.

Young atoned soon after when making an astonishing block from Jamie Sendles-White’s close range hooked shot.

However, it was the Darts who scored again a minute later. McKenzie-Lyle seemed unsure whether to stick or twist eventually came out to head away, but only as far as Jack Smith who showed great technique to launch it into the empty net.

There were three minutes left when Dartford added their fifth goal. A Welling attack broke down and suddenly Dartford had a three on two break. Substitute Alex Wall paced his pass to perfection and Coulsdon slotted it beyond the out-rushing McKenzie-Lyle.

Wall came close to making it six in injury time, but McKenzie-Lyle pushed his shot round the post.

Dartford are in action again on Saturday when they host Braintree Town while Welling will have to wait until next Tuesday when Slough Town are the visitors.
