Two late second half goals from Jack Evans and Elliot Bradbrook saw Dartford come from behind to stun the league leaders at Princes Park and tick off another victory against an ex league club.
In a scrappy first half, Wrexham controlled the speed of the game with the impressive Kevin Thornton pulling the strings in the centre of midfield, without the away side creating any real openings.
And it was the Darts who had the first real chance in the 21st minute after a succession of corners. The second of which saw Ryan Hayes left wing corner find Elliot Bradbrook towering over the Wrexham defence but his header was miraculously cleared from just in front of the goal line from Neil Ashton.
Five minutes later, Wrexham went ahead, with a great team goal. Intricate play from Keates and Thornton in the centre of midfield released thornton to pierce a ball through the home defence to Danny Wright cutting in from the right who took a touch before slotting in to the bottom left corner with his left foot beyond Bettinelli in the Dartford goal.
Wrexham kept up the pressure for the rest of the half with Dartford unable to do anything but play the ball aimlessly long towards Erskine playing the lone furrow up front.
With time running out in the first half, Thornton released Brett Ormerod on the left. His trickery in the box led to him feeding the ball to Joe Clarke whose clipped cross found Dele Adebola who bought the ball down on his chest before his shot was blocked by Mark Arber.
The same pattern of play continued after the break, with Kevin Thornton shot being deflected over the bar after a left wing cross from Neil Ashton and the same two combined ten minutes later with ashton cross for Adebola who headed inches wide under pressure.
There looked no way back for the darts and a second goal for the visitors seemed imminent. Jack Evans substitution in the 67th minute for James Rogers changed the outcome of the game.
It took just five minutes for Evans to score the equaliser. Danny Harris won a throw in down the left and as the ball made it’s way into the box, it ricocheted into the path of Evans who drilled the ball into the bottom corner, before going wild in celebration.
Just a minute after the goal, Ryan Hayes slipped through Evans in on goal but his shot was smothered by the Wrexham goalkeeper.
Wrexham were teetering on the edge now, but a quick breakaway down the right released the goalscorer Wright one on one with the keeper but Tom Bonner came from nowhere to block the ball away for a corner.
All the pressure was now coming from the home side, Adam green fed evans on the edge of the area , who turned onto his right foot before curling the ball towards goal, forcing another good save by Chris Maxwell in the Wrexham goal.
Dartford thought they had scored a late winner in the 88th minute after Ryan Hayes broke from the half way line, cutting inside and getting a shot off which the keeper parried to Danny Harris who poked the ball into the net at the second attempt from close range but the offside flag was raised.
Dartford kept up the pressure going into stoppage time and with just reward. After a Jack Evans free kick had been headed behind for a corner, Ryan Hayes inch perfect corner found Bradbrook at the back post to power home a header to beat the league leaders at Princes Park. The final whistle went soon after to loud cheers from the home crowd.
Ugly scenes marred the end of the game with one supporter getting onto the pitch and squaring up to Ryan Hayes as the teams were leaving the pitch, causing all the players to pile in.
Police separated the man away from the players and he was escorted down the players tunnel in handcuffs. Other separate incidents escalated in the stands at the final whistle but were soon dispersed. The Darts beat the league leaders and welcome Braintree to Princes Park on Tuesday.
