Dartford 1-0 Welling United

Ronnie Vint’s late goal was decisive as Dartford claimed victory over local rivals Welling United.

Until then, the game had all the makings of a nil-nil draw which would probably have been a fair result.

Charlie Sheringham came close to scoring in the opening minutes but Dan Wilks came out to make an excellent block.

Julien Anau then missed an excellent chance for Welling when heading wide after being picked out by Craig Braham-Barrett.

Nassim L’Ghoul had to be substituted after he had gone down clutching his hamstring after chasing a cross-field pass and Zack Newton replaced him.

Chances after that were more about feeding on scraps rather than either team’s creativity. Phil Roberts had a shot easily saved by Wilks before Newton fired wide for Welling after he had moved on to Danny Mills’ header.

It was then Dartford who were forced to make a change with Jordan Wynter replacing Mark Onyemah.

Newton then headed home from a Mills cross but his joy was short-lived due to an offside flag. Newton shot beyond the far post soon after as he looked to take full advantage of a rare appearance.

Luke Rooney had a shot saved by Bailey Vose before Dartford went close just before the break. Dead ball specialist Ben Greenhalgh picked out Tom Bonner and his glancing header came back off the far post.

Half chances were the best that both clubs could manage in the opening exchanges of the second half. Anau created an opportunity but fired just over for Welling then Greenhalgh blasted a Dartford free kick into the car park.

Again Anau looked for an opening and Vose parried his shot to safety then the Dartford custodian came out quickly to block Newton’s effort.

Rooney cut in and fired over and Anau was just too high after he fed on Newton’s square pass.

Thierry Audel broke forward and found substitute Bradley Goldberg but his shot was deflected over.

Lee Noble was also unable to keep a shot down when Andre Coker knocked back Greenhalgh’s cross.

John Paul Kissock then had a shot deflected wide from a Mills chest down.

It seemed fitting that a scrappy match was decided by a scrappy goal. Greenhalgh took a free kick from close to the half way line. He launched a ‘Hail Mary’ into the penalty area and it fell to the feet of Vint who fired home from close range.

Despite throwing men forward, Welling were unable to break down a resolute Darts defence and the hosts were soon celebrating drawing level on points with their neighbours.
