Touching down back in the UK, Kent Kings’ new boy kid on the block Danno Verge has reflected on an experience of a lifetime out in Australia.
“My trip to Australia has been good!! I have learnt such a lot racing at different tracks and sampling the experience of competing and practicing out in the country which is the birthplace of Speedway.”
“The last two times I’ve been racing I have been on good pace and when I was at the North Brisbane track for a final day’s practice last Sunday I had the bike set up superbly.”
“Every time I stuck my back wheel in the dirt it hooked up and pulled! That’s what you want the bike to do! Learning more about set ups and getting the bike ready for different tracks is another thing which my trip Down Under has given me”
And with the details of the fixtures for the City Gearboxes National League filtering through to the Shorne-based teenager whilst on his vacation, Danno is relishing putting his newly-honed skills to the test in the white hot atmosphere of competition back home,
“I have to say I was buzzing when I saw the fixtures. It’s great that the division has the added prestige of a new sponsor, with City Gearboxes coming on board and with extra teams in the league this year with the addition of Birmingham and a track where I learnt about my racing trade, Eastbourne it means a busy schedule for us all.”
Not one who likes periods of racing inactivity, the Plumstead-born Verge is looking forward to some very busy spells in the City Gearboxes National League schedule,
“ I’m looking forward to the meetings we have, and it seems like we have quite a few weeks where we have three of four meetings in a week which is really good! I want to be racing lots so that suits me fine!”
And Danno wants to thank those who have made his wintering on the other side of the Speedway world such a positive experience.
“Obviously I want to thank the Perks family for putting me up and for helping to arrange track time and appearances at the circuits I visited. Special thanks also to Marcus Williams for letting me use his bikes during my time in Australia; I think it’s just great what he does for the British lads!’”
