Dagenham & Redbridge v Charlton Ath preview

The Charlton Under-21 team travelled to Crewe on Monday and came away with a convincing 3-0 win.

A brace from Zak Ansah – one a penalty – plus a late strike from Brandon Hall were enough to secure the points.

The Addicks will face Dagenham & Redbridge in the first round of the Capital One Cup at The Valley on Tuesday evening, with Guy Luzon set to make full use of his squad. It will be a good opportunity to get some game time into some of the fringe players.

Charlton are still searching for an experienced keeper as back-up to Nick Pope during Stephen Henderson’s enforced absence.

Dimitar Mitov is Pope’s current deputy but Luzon looks certain to stick with Pope for this game.

Regan Charles-Cook has impressed during pre-season, and looked accomplished in the right-back berth at Bolton. A midfielder by trade, Charles-Cook looks set to start on the right side of defence.

Harry Lennon could make his first start of the season alongside Patrick Bauer in central defence. Tareiq Holmes-Dennis may complete the back line.

Cristian Ceballos may be used on the right of midfield for this match, with Zak Bergdich playing ahead of Holmes-Dennis on the left.

Johnnie Jackson is sure to start in the heart of midfield and could be partnered by Jordan Cousins.

Karlan Ahearne-Grant may be in tandem with Callum Harriott up front. Luzon could put this team out:

Pope, Charles-Cook, Bauer, Lennon, Holmes-Dennis; Ceballos, Cousins, Jackson, Bergdich; Ahearne-Grant, Harriott.

The above team contains nine players who meet the home grown criteria.

Stuart Attwell from Warwickshire will be the referee.

Luzon will probably have one or two big hitters on the bench in case things go awry, but will be confident that his starting Xl will be strong enough to win the tie.
