Dagenham & Redbridge v Bromley preview

Bromley look to recover from Saturday’s home defeat to Solihull Moors as they make the trip to the cusp of East London and Essex to take on title chasing Dagenham & Redbridge.

Kick off at the Chigwell Construction Stadium is 7.45pm.

Neil Smith’s Raven’s side were unbeaten in three games after a fairly patchy start to 2017 and would have been buoyed by the fine fightback up at Tranmere on their last away game on 11th February which brought a point back to Hayes Lane from two goals down.

However, in front of a large crowd on Saturday, an early goal for the Midlanders rocked Bromley and the game became rather scrappy on the difficult playing surface.   Bromley came close in the first half through Blair Turgott on a couple of occasions with Bradley Goldberg’s second half effort saved by the Moors keeper the best chances against a side who were reduced to ten men late on.

Despite the defeat Bromley find themselves in a relatively healthy league position of 11th in the National League table with 45 points and a respectable goal difference which is quite an achievement in a season where not all has gone well at times.  Bromley are twelve points off the bottom four and eleven points off the playoffs.  In a season where many pundits were expecting them to struggle they can be satisfied with the season to date.   It is perhaps the home form that has maybe not always gone according to plan but to confirm a third season of National League football next season will be a feat worth celebrating.

Their opponents on Tuesday, Dagenham and Redbridge are coming off the back of a surprise home defeat themselves after Guiseley took all three points to win 2-1 on Saturday with Dagenham missing a penalty and reduced to ten men.  This snapped a five game winning run for John Still’s men and was a blow as they could have gone joint top with a win with leaders Lincoln City involved in their historic FA Cup adventure.

As it was, they and Forest Green slipped up when they too could have narrowed the gap.  The Daggers are on 61 points with Forest Green and Tranmere a point behind.  Lincoln lead the way with 64, but have two games less than Dagenham and Redbridge.

Dagenham and Redbridge were relegated last season from the Football League and were many people’s favourites for an instant return and won five of their first six games.  Form has been fairly consistent throughout the season and were unbeaten in 2017 until the Guiseley loss.

Oliver Hawkins is their leading scorer with 18 in the league and scored the third goal when the Daggers won 3-1 at Hayes Lane in September.   With Lincoln at North Ferriby United and fourth placed Tranmere at home to Boreham Wood there may be a bit more pressure on Dagenham and Redbridge to get a result.

Bromley though are undoubtedly capable of pulling off another fine performance on the road and should be a fascinating contest.
