Dagenham & Redbridge v Bromley preview

After two disappointing defeats Bromley travel to Dagenham & Redbridge in the National League on Saturday afternoon looking to rediscover the form that saw The Ravens go from the edge of the relegation zone on Boxing Day to eleventh at the start of March.

A 2-0 home defeat to Boreham Wood last weekend was followed by a 1-0 loss at Harrogate Town on Tuesday night, thanks to a 94th minute penalty, which was awarded for hand ball, although the Referee admitted he couldn’t identify the culprit.

Despite the two losses The Ravens still sit in eleventh place with 47 points from 36 games.

Influential midfielder Frankie Sutherland is available again after suspension, but Neil Smith will still be without the injured trio of Jack Holland, Adam Mekki & Jake Goodman, having also lost Zavon Hines who has been forced to retire from the game due to injury. Charlton Athletic loanee Brendon Sarpong-Wiradu impressed at Harrogate and will be hoping for more game time, which has been in short supply since he made his temporary switch from the Valley to Hayes Lane.

Peter Taylor’s Daggers currently sit in fifteenth with 44 points from their 36 games played, having been on a good run that has seen the East London side move away from the bottom four. In midweek Dagenham drew 1-1 at Maidenhead Utd with both goals coming in the last five minutes of the game and they also drew 1-1 with Harrogate last Saturday.

When the sides met at Hayes Lane in November Dagenham won 2-0 with goals from their prolific striker Connor Wilkinson and Angelo Balanta. Last time the teams met at Victoria Road was in August 2017, when The Daggers won 5-1.

With Bromley 12 points off the top seven play off spots and also 12 points clear of the bottom four with ten games to play, there probably isn’t that much to play for as far as league standings go, but Smith will be looking ahead to next season and which players he will be looking to retain.

A decent turn out is expected from the Bromley support for what is one of the more local games in the league fixtures.
