Another sultry night tested the fitness and stamina of the Addicks at Dagenham. Ben Hamer, who was substituted at half-time by David Button, spent the second half chatting to fans.
Celebrity spotters would have been pleased to see Dan from The Only Way Is Essex amongst the Charlton fans.
The Addicks took to the field in their white away shirts for the first time, led out by skipper, Yann Kermorgant. Chris Powell utilised a 4-5-1 formation, with Jordan Cousins and Dale Stephens as the two holding midfielders and Kermorgant as the lone frontman.
Charlton dominated the early stages and took the lead after just six minutes. Danny Green – back on his old stomping ground – took a left-wing corner that the Daggers were unable to clear. The ball fell nicely for Danny Hollands to put the visitors ahead.
The Addicks doubled their lead just before the half hour mark. A move down the right allowed Chris Solly to play Callum Harriott in. The talented youngster despatched the ball with his right foot.
There was another piece of Kermorgant’s audacity shortly after the restart. He beat Dagenham keeper, Chris Lewington, to the ball on the edge of the area and his curled effort from a ridicuously acute angle, fell just the wrong side of the far post.
The usual plethora of substitutions disrupted the flow of the game and it became somewhat disjointed.
There was still time for David Button to pull off a couple of smart saves as the Addicks safely saw the game out.
Chris Powell will again be delighted with his side’s performance. They have now played six, won five, drawn one with a goal difference of 17-1, impressive stuff.
