“We should have finished them off and had the game won by half-time but when you don’t you risk a side coming back at you as they did” said manager Neil Cugley after Folkestone Invicta’s dramatic late 2-0 win over a useful Potters Bar side at the Fullicks Stadium on Saturday.
“That’s four wins in the last five games and a decent number of goals scored to those conceded so we’re doing okay at the moment.
“Tim (Roberts) made a couple of good saves in the second half and they had a couple of good chances. To be fair, I felt they were having their best spell of the game when we got the breakthrough.
“We’ll rest two or three tomorrow for the league cup tie. Alfie (Paxman), Draycs (Ian Draycott) and JV (Josh Vincent) will come in and I’ll leave Roland Edge and Mev (Micheal Everitt) to look after things, as I have in the league cup games so far. It’s good experience for them and only fair that those three players get the chance to try to earn a place in the side for our game at Woking on Saturday.”
Johan Ter Horst (knees) is waiting to see a specialist and Sam Hasler may again be on the bench because of his ongoing illness. “But that still leaves us 15 or 16 to play with” said Cugs.
And there’s terrific news for the club with midfielder Scott Heard now targeting a return from his long-term knee injury around Christmas-New Year.
“Scottt’s been training with us for several weeks now and everything is looking very positive. He can’t wait to get back, but we’ll need to be sure before we give him that chance. He’s another very important player for us and if we get everybody including Heardy, Johan and Sam up and running we’ll have arguably as strong a squad as we’ve ever had.”
Tomorrow’s game is against Hayes & Yeading in Round Three of the Velocity Trophy (Isthmian League Cup), the first attempt having had to be postponed following traffic problems on the M20 last Tuesday evening.
