Kent racing driver Alex Nevill is all set for “crunch time” as the Mini Challenge Cooper Trophy heads to Croft in Yorkshire for the penultimate round of the season and the last of the year in support of the British Touring Car Championship.
Following a season where the Motorsport UK Academy squad member has shown speed but not fortune, Alex is currently seventh in the points standings and 38 points away from the championship leader. With 436 points still up grabs, the title remains wide open.
In order for Alex to win the title he’ll need to be consistently up the front throughout the last two race weekends of the year.
That’s a tall order in a 28 car strong field, but the 2018 Cooper Am champion is spurred on by the pace shown at Snetterton.
Where the Graves Motorsport driver scored his first podium of the year and set the fastest race lap of the weekend, having also done so just one week before at Thruxton.
Speaking ahead of the weekend, Nevill said: “Now that we’re at the business end of the championship it’s crucial we rise to the challenge and start to deliver the best results we can.”
Alex enthused. “We’ve shown throughout the year that the speed and ability is there to win races, now we need to start delivering on that promise if we’re to make further progress in the championship standings.
“Croft was a challenging weekend for us last year (Alex suffered a DNF after an accident while fighting for a podium spot) but I think having that experience will make us stronger this weekend.”
Round four of the Cooper Trophy will feature a pair of 20 minute sprint races, one on Saturday and one on Sunday (10th/11th October.)
Sunday’s race will be included in ITV4’s live coverage of the BTCC race meeting with the race due to start at 15:00pm.
