Crowborough bowed out of the Vase in an entertaining game against Coleshill Town who now have won eight games on the trot.
The game started slowly with both teams looking nervous and then in the 12th minute the excitement started when a Wayne Clarke cross into the area was flapped at by Paul Hathaway and fell at Sam Crabb’s feet and Hathaway came out & fouled him to concede a penalty, up stepped Sam Carrington and he hit it just to the right but Hathaway guessed right and pushed it away for a corner and from the resulting corner to the near post Carrington’s flicked header went just past the post.
Six minutes later Crowborough took the lead when Crabb’s cross into the area found Jack Turner on his own and from 10 yards he headed in. Coleshill didn’t have to wait too long to equalise when two minutes later a foul in the area resulted in a penalty and Dean Rathbone stepped up and hit it low to the right. The game started to flow with both sides having a go, in the 25th minute Zac Attwood passed into the path of Ross Treleavan who from 15 yards saw his shot saved at the second attempt.
Two minutes later and Coleshill took the lead when Robert Evans took Clarke on but was tripped in the area and another penalty was given, up stepped Rathbone and he hit it straight down the middle. Crowborough continued to go for it despite being down and in the 41st minute Treleavan tried his luck from 25 yards & it just went past the post and three minutes later Attwood from half way ran forward taking the defender on got into the area and his shot from an acute angle was saved. In the 3rd minute off added on time Coleshill nearly increased their lead when a corner to the back post found Craig Milligan and his header was cleared of the line by Clarke.
The second half became a better half than the first as in the 50th minute a cross to the back post saw Jack Warner head back into the danger area of which it was half cleared to Crabb who from 20 yards shot just wide. Eight minutes later and Coleshill scored a third when Rathbone on the left got to the by-line and his low cross to the near post was stabbed in by Reece Leek.
At the time most people at the game thought game over and in the 67th minute it became four-one when Jordan Nadat beat Tom Vickers and crossed to the back post for Rathbone who slotted in from 10 yards to complete his hat trick, it was game over but the Crowborough players thought otherwise as in the 70th minute Attwood’s free kick on the edge of the area fizzed into net.
Five minutes later and Attwood in the area was fouled & another penalty was given, up stepped Vickers who smashed it straight down the middle. In the 80th minute Coleshill went down to 10 men when Joshua Quaynor was sent off for two bookings, now could Crowborough capitalise and get an equalise but in their quest for the equalise they lost the ball & in a breakaway Andre Gonzales ran forward passed out wide to Nadat who ran into the area & shot past Dan Ellis.
Crowborough were broken and their dreams broken. In the 4th minute of added on time Coleshill added salt to the wound when Nadat broke on the right beating Vickers and went on into the area pretending to shoot but passed sideways for Simeon Colbourne who from 10 yards slotted into the empty net. The final whistle went & the Coleshill players and supporters celebrated their win which keeps their dream of Wembley still there.
