Old Bexley Primary School has been delivering cricket to their pupils for almost 15 years.
A successful combination of enthusiastic teaching staff and high quality coaching, cricket has gone from strength to strength at Old Bexley.
The Chance to Shine Programme has been instrumental in this accomplishment, providing paid qualified coaches to deliver cricket sessions and to train teaching staff. An endorsement of this incredible achievement is highlighted by the sheer numbers of boys and girls attending the after school cricket club, which is accredited to PE Coordinator Matthew Ferguson and Bexley District coach, David Pask ;
“I feel as a cricket coach , the schools “cricket for all “ model would be brilliant if it was copied at all schools , as its so rewarding to see the enjoyment and the development of the children involved”.
“At Old Bexley we believe it is important to provide children with as many opportunities as possible. We are very proud of how many we have at our clubs and we believe that all children with all needs should be welcome. It is fantastic to see cricket being so played so passionately by pupils from 5 years old up to 11 years old. As a teacher seeing so many pupils move on to play for clubs shows the high level of commitment from both the pupils and the coaches. Long may this continue!”
Competition success has not evaded Old Bexley, winning many Local and County games and narrowly losing out in the final of a regional competition. Cricket Clubs in the area have been the beneficiaries of Old Bexley’s talent, with many former pupils playing representative cricket for various Kent age groups.
