Kent based Cricket Cubs and Friends have experienced an amazing journey in their short, but successful existence.Cricket Cubs

Cricket Cubs and Friends is a cricket play programme for 2 to 7 year olds. They teach and play fun and exciting skills covering all of the core skills associated with cricket: batting, bowling, fielding and wicket keeping.

Some of the basic batting shots they cover are the front foot drive, and the pull shot. Some of the other batting shots taught are the lofted drive, hit to leg, and the sweep shot. The skills are broken down and designed by head coach and owner Jon Waite, to allow every child to be able to play and try all of the skills.

“At Cricket Cubs we break down every technique and make it child friendly. Some of the skills come naturally to the children, however the more advanced shots like the sweep shot have been broken down to allow every child to learn and play the shot”

Cricket Cubs and Friends main ethic is to ‘Enjoy’ what they are doing, however if they learn to play cricket along the way then that’s an added bonus.

Cricket can be a daunting and sometimes a boring thought for some people, adults as well as children, however Cricket Cubs change their terminology for all to understand and remember which adds to the fun.

The story started at the beginning of March 2012, and hasn’t stopped growing and is attracting new members and friends all of the time.

Cricket Cubs and Friends have been running their cricket coaching schemes at the 44TWO Sports Club, Gillingham on a Sunday morning. The 44TWO Sports Club is an ‘ECB Recognised’ indoor cricket facility and is a fantastic and attractive venue.Cricket Cubs Bromley

Cricket Cubs and Friends have now started going further afield; travelling to Old Elthamians Cricket Club on a Friday evening to start generating a younger age group at the club. Paul Daniels (Chairman of the junior section at Old Elthamians) couldn’t resist getting Cricket Cubs into the club.

“Cricket cubs is a brilliant concept that brings children and their parents together in a fun packed brilliantly coached environment where all kids can enjoy themselves whatever their ability.” said Daniels.

“Old Elthamians has fully embraced the concept and have helped to pilot cricket cubs in the Bromley area. Cricket Bromley and Cricket Cubs are now going to develop the concept borough wide on behalf of local clubs, the cricketing community and above all young children. A fantastic concept brilliantly executed.”

Cricket Cubs have been delivering sessions now since the season started and was a success on the first session. The joint partnership is now brought in around 16 new members to the club, all aged 3 to 5 years old.Cricket Cubs2

In addition to this, Cricket Cubs are raising money for the charity CRY: Cardiac Risk in the Young and will be donating a cheque for all money raised at Christmas 2013. A charity raffle has just finished, which has raised just under £150.

There are four adults associated to Cricket Cubs who are doing a charity bike ride starting on the 30th July cycling for three days.

Their ride starts at the 44TWO Sports Club Gillingham and includes Lords Cricket Ground, Sussex County Cricket Club Hove, Kent County Cricket Club Canterbury before finishing back at the 44TWO Sports Club.
